Classic Americana and pop culture favorites will meet on Public Square during the Cleveland Orchestra's 24th annual Star-Spangled Spectacular. "There are some special things that are going on this year," says William Eddins, who will conduct the orchestra for the third time at the July 1 free concert. Music from Superman and Toy Story will be featured as the orchestra pays tribute to the Man of Steel's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, and celebrates songwriter Randy Newman's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Upbeat and patriotic compositions from the '40s and '50s such as Eddins' personal favorite, "Buckaroo Holiday," are also part of the program. "When I see the names of Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein next to each other [on the set list], I tend to get a smile on my face," he says. "I love this era of music." 9 p.m., clevelandorchestra.com
