maybe it should be called Weapons of Mass (Re-)Creation Fest. This year, the art and design gathering Aug. 7-9 changes it up with a new venue — the Allen Theatre — and no live music on its roster. We talked to co-director Heather Sakai about those changes and more.
Q. Which speaker are you excited about?
A. Michael Bierut is a huge get for us. He grew up in Parma and is now a partner at Pentagram, a big graphic design firm in New York City. He'll talk about how he made it in graphic design.
Q. Why the new site?
A. We wanted to step up our game and highlight downtown. And we felt like our attendees would appreciate the super plush seats at the Allen Theatre.
Q. Why drop music from WMC Fest?
A. Instead of music later in the evening, people said they wanted to debrief the talks and network with other designers.
