Scott Robertson has the Midas touch. As the owner and creative director of flower shop Stems Fleur in Ohio City, he drew inspiration from a monochromatic 1950s holiday card with a wispy gold foil tree, oversized ornaments and a gleaming star for Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens’ Deck the Hall holiday celebration Dec. 1-3, 7-10, 14-23 and 26-30. Following a “Postcards from the Past” theme, more than a dozen floral designers adorned manor rooms with trimmings inspired by 1930s to ‘50s-era holiday cards. “I just love the sort of traditional look of all the gold and how it has a bit of contemporary flare to it,” says Robertson. His design sets the 2,700-square-foot Music Room’s dark wood aglow with lavish gold garlands, uplit gold urns displaying gold-painted orchids, succulents and botanicals, and gilded details throughout. A 15-foot tree serves as the room’s centerpiece, with 9-foot trees in all corners dripping with white lights as accents. “I thought the juxtaposition would be really amazing in that old room,” he says.
