On a Bumble date in Wisconsin, Emily Moreno mentioned that she was campaigning for Republican Sen. Ron Johnson.
“Isn’t he a Trump supporter?” her date asked. “He looked at me like I had five eyes,” says the Cleveland native now living in Washington, D.C. “He stormed out.”
Her Republican friends’ horror stories skew worse — even drinks in the face. Wanting a space for right-wing lovers, Moreno launched the dating app Donald Daters in October. Freemium users get a profile, 25 swipes per day and a la carte options, while monthly subscriptions start at $29.99 for more matches and messages.
While reviews aren’t stellar and the subscription base doesn’t appear to be “huuuge,” the app, which has been downloaded 25,000 times in 50 states and featured on Fox News, shows presidential politics have even seeped into our dating lives.
“Trump supporters are alienated in the current dating scene,” Moreno says. “People shouldn’t be forced to take off their ‘Make America Great Again’ hats.”
