Elu Dance Co. Rethinks A Mythic Tale
Inspired by a C.S. Lewis novel and Greek mythology, barefaced is a dance piece that follows the rift between two sisters.
It depicts Orual’s possessive love for her sister, Psyche, who falls in love with the god of Grey Mountain, represented by the stairs, which modern-contemporary dancers climb and spin around as they convey the sisters’ rift and eventual reconciliation.
Working with local artists, barefaced also incorporates film and Ken Wadenpfuhl’s original music into this visceral tale of the human heart.
“What we want the audience to experience is a sense of freedom, even in those broken and ugly places within ourselves,” says Mackenzie Valley, Elu’s co-artistic director. “There is hope beyond that.” eludanceco.org
