See some of the 20th century's most memorable figures come to life.
Some of the 20th century’s most memorable figures will be brought to life June 18-22 during Ohio Chautauqua in Geauga County. For the first time in the traveling event’s 20-year history, the neighboring towns of Burton and Chardon will collaborate on this year’s theme of modern legends. The event features youth camps, local live music and living history performances by scholars representing such figures as Julia Child, Robert F. Kennedy and Cesar Chavez. “This is a way everyone can connect with history and at the same time they can also engage with the histories of these communities,” says program coordinator Samantha Chase. Catch living history performances at Burton’s Century Village Museum and other events at the Geauga Lyric Theater, Geauga Public Library, Burton Public Library and Heritage House in Chardon. “By participating in question-and-answer sessions with these figures, visitors are able to interact with history in ways they can’t elsewhere,” says Chase.
