Someone needs to let the Old World know what’s happening at the Sausage Shoppe. A Memphis Avenue fixture since 1938, the butcher shop still hawks classics such as liverwurst ($9 per pound) and weisswurst ($9.99 per pound), delicate Bavarian sausages made with whole milk that, traditionally, aren’t eaten after noon. But owner Norm Heinle also thrills in upsetting the butcher block with New World concoctions such as a Sriracha-flavored beer brat ($9.99 per pound). “It leaves a glow in your mouth,” says Heinle. Even with its newfangled flavors and format, the Shoppe stays true to what’s made it beloved. Its pork and beef come from just two suppliers and with zero preservatives. You either need to consume or freeze your haul within five days. Use It At Home: Add heft and heat to clam chowder with the four-peppered Old Brooklyn sausage ($9.99 per pound). 4501 Memphis Ave., Cleveland, 216-351-5213, sausageshoppe.com
