The exhibit Fused pays homage to the matriarch of the gardens, Gertrude Seiberling.
With an elaborate mansion, blooming rose gardens and 70 acres to explore, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is a timeless destination. But this summer, the historic Akron landmark gets a modern makeover with Fused, an outdoor art exhibit featuring 15 metal sculptures towering 6 to 9 feet tall throughout the gardens. Created by five local artists, the exhibit, on display June 1-Oct. 1, pays homage to Gertrude Seiberling, the matriarch of Stan Hywet who painted nearly 150 works of art during the last 16 years of her life. “We’re kind of fusing modern art with her paintings she made decades ago,” says Sean Joyce, president and executive director. “Some are incorporating stained glass into them or digitally imposing artwork into the metal itself.” 714 N.
