I was skeptical of testing out Cleveland Clinic’s Mindful Moments app (free on iOS and Android), especially when I saw that many of the 15 meditations were more than 10 minutes. Who has the time? So to ease into it, I started out with the Mindful Minute. It has become my new go-to during the day with simple, guided breathing instructions: In through the nose, out through the mouth. Led by Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. Leonard Calabrese in a calm, soothing voice, it helps reset me when I’m feeling panicked or overwhelmed. And if I need a little bit of extra care, the SOS Meditation: Chaos to Calm, an almost 3-minute guided meditation with Dr. Calabrese, reminds me to let things go: “I want you to remember for a moment that the pressures and troubles that made you upset can’t be magically fixed and you can’t fight them.” Sure, my troubles might not magically go away, but at the end of the meditation, I am calmer and somehow feel like Dr. Calabrese knew exactly what I needed to hear.
