From a therapeutic glass to a great gift, a good bottle of wine can get you through the holidays in more ways than one. You don't have to break the bank to select a crowd-pleaser, says Glen Campbell, owner of Vineyards Wine Merchant in Parma. "Go with a blend because then you have the best of both worlds," he says. Campbell shares two picks that are less than $20 (we love a holiday sale).
- Red: Claret, Francis Ford Coppola (Reg. $22.99, Sale $14.99)
-
- "It's one of my personal picks, and at $14.99 it's the best sale price of the year," Campbell says. The blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc goes well with meat, but Campbell likes giving it for another reason, too. "It comes in a brass wire mesh cage," he says. Gift wrapping not required.
- White: Ecclestone, Tangent Winery (Reg. 19.99, Sale $12.99)
-
- Campbell compares this California boutique blend to popular label Conundrum, which costs around $24. "For half the price, it's very similar," he says. Crisp with hints of citrus and melon, it takes pinot gris, viognier, riesling, pinot blanc and muscat grapes to create this varietal, which is a nice companion for turkey or fish.
