Your sanctuary awaits at the new Bud and Susie Rogers Garden slated to sprout July 16 at the Akron Art Museum. The outdoor space adjacent to the museum features a shady birch tree canopy at street level, an open lawn-like green, and a crisscross walking path surrounded by prairie grass and perennials that leads up to an overlook with trees and patches of Northeast Ohio vegetation. This public oasis is also an artists’ canvas to fill, opening with a call for community artists to come on the first day and create artworks throughout the summer to fit the space. Whether it transforms into a kids’ play zone, sunny spot to lounge with your favorite book or performance area to jam out to a Downtown at Dusk concert, this new garden plants seeds to bring the Akron community together through culture. “It is a new way of thinking, not only for art museums, but for public and civic spaces,” says Mark Masuoka, executive director and CEO of the museum. “The architecture of the space is brilliant, and this garden is really transforming the way the museum interacts with the public.” 1 S.
