Ingredients aren't the only fresh things making their way into Rocco Whalen's Tremont restaurant.
After 15 years, the chef and owner of Fahrenheit decided it was time to do a little redecorating. On Jan. 1, he closed the restaurant for 10 days and handed the space over to his wife, Alexis Dankovich, who led the renovations.
"I was 24 when I opened [Fahrenheit]," says Whalen. "I just wanted to get the doors open."
With the restaurant now established as one of the city's best, he wanted to update the decor and reconfigure the workspace for his staff.
The interior, which was built in 1937, was stripped to the original walls and floors, then rebuilt from the ground up.
"We needed to freshen it up and give it a nice new look and feel," says Whalen of the $100,000 project. "Natural tones and good earth colors are what we always go for."
