Jordan Cameron
CLEVELAND BROWNS TIGHT END, 25
WHY HE'S INTERESTING: Cameron turned in an Ozzie Newsome-type season for the Browns, ranking in the top five among NFL tight ends in receptions, yards and touchdowns (through 13 games). At 6 feet 4 inches tall and 250 pounds, the former college basketball recruit also has an LA tan, high cheekbones and Hollywood looks — which prompted teammate Garrett Gilkey to call him "GQ Man of the Year."
TOUGH CATCH: A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cameron originally attended Brigham Young University to play basketball and do mission work, as his father and grandfather had done. But after one redshirt season, he decided to transfer. "That was one of the hardest decisions in my life, to go on a mission or play football. It might be something I'll do later."
DADDY TIME: Cameron's son, Tristan, was born his first year at University of Southern California. He kept Cameron focused during the two years when he barely played and practiced as a member of the USC scout team. "It's not about me anymore. It's about him."
PLAY CALL: Now 4 1/2 years old, Tristan still lives in LA, but he visits every few weeks. "My mom or my brother will bring him. He loves the zoo or the children's museum or the science center."
COMBINING SKILLS: In his senior season at USC, Cameron caught just 16 passes. But his 4.59-second 40-yard dash time and 37.5-inch vertical jump at the NFL Scouting Combine made him a fourth-round pick in 2011. "I'm lucky they put so much stock in [the combine]."
GENE POOL: Cameron's grandfather, Jack Cravens, played basketball and baseball at BYU. His sister, Brynn, was a star guard at USC, and his younger brother, Colby, set the NCAA record for most passes without an interception as quarterback at Louisiana Tech University. But Cameron says his oldest sister, Emily, a high school standout in basketball and volleyball, may be the best athlete. "Now she's a stud mom in Agora Hills, [Calif.], and takes care of three kids, but she'd probably beat us all in basketball."
TOUCHDOWN MOVES: The "T" signal he gives after scoring a touchdown is for his son. "I don't remember how it started. I only scored one touchdown in college, and I remember wanting to do something for him."
MODEL BREAKUP: Cameron briefly dated supermodel Erin Heatherton, though they are no longer an item. "She's a good girl, hard worker, and I wish the best for her. We're cool. She just has a very busy schedule, and so do I. It just didn't work out."
DR. SLEUTH: Cameron enjoys reading murder mysteries (often on his sister Emily's recommendation) and recently finished the first two books in Tom Rob Smith's The Child 44 Trilogy. "I kind of escape the world."
BEACH BUM: Cameron loves the beach and spends time there whenever possible. During the Browns bye week in November, he headed back to California and spent time on the warm sand. "I grew up going to Zuma Beach. Now it's Manhattan Beach or Zuma."
