Why She’s Interesting: The upbeat Detroit native came to Northeast Ohio from Knoxville, Tennessee, where her work as morning anchor and reporter for an ABC affiliate included red carpet interviews at the 2015 Country Music Association Awards in Nashville. Since her June arrival in Cleveland, she has covered the Cavs championship parade and traveled to Chicago for Games 3, 4 and 5 of the Indians World Series run.
Role Call: As a fifth-grader, Miller read the morning announcements over the school’s TV monitors. She was inspired to take on the task after watching former Today co-anchor Katie Couric shoe-shop during the NBC morning show’s coverage of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. “I remember thinking, Oh, my gosh, she has the coolest job in the world!”
Hot Topic: The country music fan got to interview Kacey Musgraves, Trisha Yearwood and her fave Garth Brooks at the CMA Awards. But the job wasn’t nearly as glamorous as it sounds. “Even though it’s November, it’s the South. You’re in this big white tent that has no ventilation. Everybody was just sweating and talking about how sticky it was.”
Full-Court Press: Miller’s third day at Cleveland 19 News — the day of the Cavs championship parade — started with the challenge of getting to the station. Her five-minute, 8 a.m. drive turned into an hourlong journey “The police ended up having to move some of the spectators so I could get through. I was like, ‘I work with Cleveland 19. I just need to get to work!’ ”
Anchors Away: Miller gave up her anchor seat in Knoxville because she prefers to be in the field. “That’s where the action is. You’re not sitting back in the studio.”
Puppy Love: Her primary companion is Charlotte, a border collie and Australian shepherd mix she adopted from a Nashville-area shelter. She loves the dog so much she makes from-scratch biscuits for her. “We go on runs pretty much every day together, we walk around town all the time together, we eat together. It’s kind of pathetic.”
Artistic Talent: Miller’s hobbies include drawing and painting, primarily trees and birds. “I don’t really do much with them. If any of them are framed, it’s just because my mom decided to frame them.”
CLE Cravings: Mitchell’s Homemade Ice Cream. “That’s the best ice cream I think I’ve ever had. Normally, I just like cookie dough. But they have so many good flavors.”
