The start of summer begins when the sun is the farthest north from the Earth’s equator. To mark the longest day of the year, more than 6,000 revelers celebrate Solstice at the Cleveland Museum of Art — mostly in their dancing shoes. What began eight years ago as a kick off the museum’s renovations (beginning with its East Wing gallery) was so off-the-hook that the museum put it on repeat. Now commemorating the museum’s 100th anniversary, Solstice is part of the June 25 and 26 Centennial Festival Weekend — a kaleidoscopic gala of art set to world and electronic music, with a performance by the Cleveland Orchestra the following day. Often a sellout, Solstice is so popular that it even draws former Clevelanders back for the weekend. “It’s a convenient homecoming,”says Tom Welsh, director of performing arts. 11150 East Blvd., Cleveland, 216-421-7350, clevelandart.org
