Last night's Band may have packed up and gone, but there's a hint of rock 'n' roll in the air when we sit down for a lunch set at the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern. The 15-year-old Waterloo music venue — a little bit grunge, a little bit hipster — has reached cult status thanks to its lineup of local and national acts. While weekend brunch served as an encore, the Beachland's new lunch menu is a chart topper with a selection of small bites such as seasonal hummus; vegetarian dishes including a house-made white bean, sweet potato and kale burger, and more. We rocked out with the Beachland Burger ($10), a juicy grass-fed beef patty with cheddar, locally produced Slovenian bacon, house pickled onions and Russian dressing on a challah bun. Ask for a side of the addictive basil garlic aioli to go with the fresh-cut fries. For a taste of Southern soul, the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich ($8.50) with pickles and whole-grain mustard was on beat with a ballad-worthy texture and taste. The heart of rock 'n' roll may be in Cleveland, but our foodie heart belongs to the Beachland.
