After nearly two decades of driving to practice, hosting kids’ birthdays and lending a hand on those last-minute homework projects, now is the time for you to unwind. The Westlake Recreation Center’s fishing pond — 5 acres of freshwater full of catfish, bluegill, largemouth bass and carp — might just reel you in. Located within the recreation center’s 86-acre park, the pond boasts a floating plastic fish pier with a nearly hidden dock that sits 12 feet deep and is surrounded by a 1.2-mile paved trail, wildlife and fields of greenery. “You’re outside, you’re on 5 acres away from the city, away from the cars, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life,” says Bill Beech, facility and grounds manager for the recreation center. If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the frogs or turtles that inhabit the pond. 28955 Hilliard Blvd., Westlake, 440-808-5700, cityofwestlake.org
