Coast your way down to Whiskey Island for this year’s Stand-up Paddleboard Race and Festival. Hosted by Cleveland Metroparks and Nalu Standup Paddle and Surf, the Aug. 20 event consists of three races throughout the day for festivalgoers to participate in, or watch and enjoy refreshments from a beer garden and food trucks. Even newbies are encouraged to climb atop a board and paddle. “It appeals to so many different types of people,” says Bill Cochrane, owner of Nalu Standup Paddle and Surf. “It’s an easy way to get out on the water.” Join the 2-mile challenge, the 6-mile elite race or bring your youngster to row the kids’ course while you jam out to live local bands such as Light Lines. “If the water is calm and we put you on the right board, almost anybody can do it,” Cochrane says. If paddling still isn’t your thing, consider climbing the rock wall or walking the slack line. 2800 Whiskey Island Drive, Cleveland, 216-272-1504, nalusup.com
