Times Square is so 2013. Forget the ball drop and head downtown for the free Cleveland Rocks NYE 2014. Ohio Homecoming, the group known for celebrating our city's birthday with a citywide bash, will kick off 2014 in style at Public Square. "It's the epicenter of the city," says Fresh Brewed Tees founder and CEO Tony Madalone, a co-chair of Ohio Homecoming. Here are three reasons to put a ring on it.
It's Electric » Bands will perform starting at 6 p.m., but stick around to hear hits, such as "Alive" and "Live for the Night," from No. 1 electronic-dance group Krewella. "[Electric dance] is super popular right now," says Madalone. "It makes for a great event — there's a lot of energy."
It's Delicious » What's a party without food? Choose from a spread of local food trucks that will keep guests fueled until midnight. "Including them is one more way to include everybody and unify the city, which is our goal," Madalone says.
It's Surprising » Activities include fireworks, live ice sculptures by Elegant Ice and a guest appearance by Drew Carey. "We're actually raising something instead of dropping something," Madalone says of the secret plans to include the comedian in the countdown. "And we expect he will be involved in that."
