Take a journey back in time to the birth of rock ‘n’ roll.
From June 14 to July 1, Memphis, The Musical strums its way into the 80-year-old Alma Theater at Cleveland Heights’ Cain Park and follows a radio DJ and a singer who break into the ’50s rock ‘n’ roll scene.
“It’s a feel-good, dance-in-your-seat, 1950s love story that also manages to tackle important issues facing our country today,” says artistic director Joanna May Cullinan.
Memphis, which centers on the rockin’ moment in American history when black music exploded on mainstream radio, comes to life thanks to a cast of local actors.
“I’m working with 23 actors across multiple races and generations who all bring a different perspective to the storytelling,” Cullinan says. “It’s a real reflection of Cleveland Heights.”
