On your mark, get set, go to the 82nd annual FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby. This weeklong event brings in kids from around the world who’ve built their own fiberglass cars to compete in a downhill race against the clock. Race week culminates July 20 with 400 champions competing for titles across seven different heats, making for a fast-paced, fun-filled day with contests, face painting, bounce houses and more. “There is a lot of fun things going on all day for the whole family,” says Mark Gerberich, International Soap Box Derby president and CEO. “We have a great opportunity to impact a lot of kids. It’s like going to a Cavs game. You go there, and there is a game going on, but you’ve got all these other things on the side.” 789 Derby Downs Drive, Akron, 330-733-8723, soapboxderby.org
