Long-suffering Browns fan Tim Tyler feared younger fans might never learn about the glory days of his hometown team. So during a 2011 flight from Cleveland to Colorado Springs, Colorado, the aspiring screenwriter and playwright worked through his frustrations by jotting them down in a notebook. "It was on my mind, all the travails and troubles that we as fans go through, especially since [the Browns] came back in 1999," says the Lakewood resident.
Soon, the character of downtrodden fan Paul, named after legendary Browns coach Paul Brown, emerged on the page. That became the foundation for Dawg Pounded, a comedy that intersperses the fan experience of Paul and an equally miserable Browns Backer with parody musical numbers, showing at Kennedy's Theatre in Playhouse Square Aug. 8 through Sept. 6. Tyler recaps some of Dawg Pounded's pivotal — real and fictional — moments of hope and heartbreak.
