Ayman Alkayali wanted to name his Little Italy teahouse something to attract a global crowd from nearby Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals. So he turned to math. "Algebra is the same in every language, and this is an international place," says Alkayali. The list of 36 teas reflects its world vibe, with Palestinian black tea, Moroccan mint and a Libyan blend with roasted peanuts and brown sugar to go along with teas from China and India. "We blend them right here according to what people want," Alkayali explains. The earthy tones of the decor, along with the clay tea mugs and driftwood tables handmade by Alkayali, give Algebra a homespun feel where everyone is welcome. Drink we love: The super-spicy Indian chai ($3) is a basic black or green tea with the delicious addition of vanilla, rosewater, steamed milk, cardamom seed, nutmeg, ginger and caraway. 2136 Murray Hill Road, Cleveland, 216-421-9007, algebrateahouse.com
