If fans were blown away by James Cameron’s spellbinding 3-D movie Avatar, they’re just as likely to be flying high when Quicken Loans Arena becomes the mystical home of the Na’vi March 3-5. Inspired by the 2009 blockbuster, Cirque du Soleil’s latest masterpiece Toruk: The First Flight portrays the world of Pandora — a moon where gravity is much different than ours — through illuminating lights, acrobatic feats and energetic larger-than-life choreography. “We have air mats in the set that help us jump just a little higher and farther,” says Nick Beyeler, a Swiss acrobat who plays the Tawkami Clan chief. The show, set thousands of years before humans discover Pandora, features the troupe’s hallmark theater-in-the-round setting and ability to engage the audience’s imagination. “I tell myself every time I head onto stage: This is it,” says Beyeler. “This is like entering a new planet.” cirquedusoleil.com/toruk
