General Electric Co.
In 1911, GE built the world's first industrial park. Today it is the operating headquarters of GE Lighting, which has developed high- and low-beam headlights for automobiles and fluorescent lamps.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
In 1898, Frank Seiberling borrowed $3,500 from his brother-in-law to start the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. In 1926, it became the world's largest rubber company.
Sherwin-Williams Co.
Founded in 1866, Sherwin-Williams Co. developed a ready-mixed paint in 1875. This year, the Cleveland location developed Paint Shield, which kills infection-causing bacteria after two hours of exposure.
Standard Oil Co.
John D. Rockefeller's company owned 22 of 26 Cleveland refineries by 1872. Due to monopoly laws, the business was split into 33 smaller companies and Rockefeller became the world's richest man.
