things remembered
Jeptha Wade II and Ellen Garretson Wade, who married in 1878, traveled the world and became collectors of beautiful things. Ellen liked to buy expensive dresses from Paris, while Jeptha was inclined to purchase jewelry from Tiffany & Co. for his wife. This pink tourmaline and diamond necklace, which was designed by Tiffany & Co. exclusively for Ellen sometime between 1885 and 1896, was donated to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History by the couple's granddaughter in 1970 after she decided it was too old-fashioned to wear.
