A photojournalist, a surgeon and an accountant walk into a woodworking class. No joke, Kurt Klimko has been catering to after-work artisans for 15 years now. His weekly "Woodworking Made Simple" class at Orange High School has included Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Amy Sancetta, University Hospitals chief orthopedic surgeon King Heiple and Deloitte managing partner Pat Mullin, to name a few of the prominent attendees. "We get a mix of people from all backgrounds," Klimko says. Aside from becoming better carpenters, the seven-week class has also collaborated on public art pieces. The class turned a dead oak tree into an ornate wooden podium for Shaker Lakes Nature Center, and an anonymous donation of pine was re-purposed into five rocking horses to be donated to children's charities.
