This fall, Clevelanders will get a chance to see the next generation of NBA stars, as the Cavaliers announced in June that they were moving the Charge, their minor-league G-League team that was formerly in Canton, to Cleveland.
Here’s what you need to know.
The move comes at the perfect time. After struggling to figure out its identity for the first years of its existence, the G-League is booming with a roster of 30 teams, three of which are new this year.
There’s a partnership with Cleveland State University. With Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse’s schedule full of games, concerts and events, the Charge will play their games at CSU’s 13,000-seat Wolstein Center.
Players and staff will benefit. Along with making life easier for players who are signed to contracts with both the Cavs and the Charge, the Charge’s new location makes it easier for Cavaliers players to get in some extra work.
