It's the golden rule of life, but also one worth following when you're laying money on the line: Treat others how you'd like to be treated. That means being respectful to your fellow players and appreciative when good luck (and service) come your way. Who knows, maybe the jackpot gods will smile upon you for the effort.
Be Cool: Even if you take quarterly junkets to Vegas, the other players at your table may need a reminder on rules of the game. Horseshoe assistant general manager Brad Hirsch says the staff is trained to answer questions and make novices feel comfortable. Take their lead and do the same. "This is a new business in Cleveland," says Hirsch. "There are a lot of folks coming through our doors that have never been in a casino."
Be Respectful: Don't use your cell phone while playing table games. Not only is it rude, it may make security think you're up to something. "Some people get excited and they want to text or take phone calls at the table," Hirsch says. "If you need to do it, you can step away from the table. It's not only good etiquette, it's part of normal casino security protocol."
Be Generous: Do tip your servers, dealers and slot attendants. Hirsch says most guests tip a dollar or two for drinks. If you hit a slot machine jackpot, it's good form to leave a tip for the attendant — anywhere from $10 to $200 depending on how big you hit it, according to Hirsch. "When [table gamblers] get up and leave, they'll leave a chip or chips for the dealer," he says. "A lot of times, a player will tip for good luck while they're playing."
