Admit it, you've always wondered what happens to beer in the vacuum of space, or at least now you're curious. The Great Lakes Science Center will show you April 7 as it celebrates Yuri's Night, a Cold-War-be-damned, over-21 celebration of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin becoming the first man in space on April 12, 1961. NASA launched the first Space Shuttle on April 12 exactly 20 years later. "You have two great anniversaries in the exploration of space," says Dante Centuori, the science center's director of creative productions. And since nothing says space exploration like some '70s dance music, Disco Inferno will burn up the stage while guests enjoy beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. "We're going to bring our science center touch to the party," says Centuori, adding there will be a space-themed costume contest and screenings of Hubble. "[We'll have] liquid nitrogen drinks and a black-light bar. ... Things will be freezing and fluorescing." greatscience.com
