John and Jocelynn David love to try new things. So when Jocelynn discovered Strider Balance Bikes for their son, Finn, it seemed a natural choice — even though generations of kids learned to ride with training wheels or a tricycle.
Designed for kids 18 months to 6 years old, Strider’s two-wheel alternative is propelled by kicking off the ground rather than pedaling. “Even [at] like 2 or 2 1/2, he was doing very well on the Strider,” says John.
Finn’s bike also came with a free entry into the Strider Cup National Race Series in Pittsburgh last year. The event pits kids ages 2 to 6 in heats of about 15 riders over a 700-foot-long course for a chance to advance to the national finals.
While Finn didn’t win, he has quickly graduated to a pedal bike and is prepping his 2-year-old sister, Sullivan, for when this year’s Strider Cup rolls into Public Square May 26. “It’s kind of like Fred Flinstone,” John says. “It’s all leg work.” striderbikes.com/cleveland
