If you’re looking for all the latest Cleveland buzz, you might want to turn your sights from Twitter to Threads.
The new microblogging social media app from Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, went live yesterday evening, and many of Cleveland’s most-active social media users and influencers rushed to send their first memos on the new site.
That includes us! Once you download the app, spin a yarn with us at threads.net/@clevelandmagazine.
Thread puns aside, here’s everything you need to know about the newest Instagram feature: Threads.
What We Know
Comparisons between the messaging app and Twitter were immediate. Audiences across digital platforms were either singing its praises as a powerful alternative to sharing text updates and engaging in public conversations, or quickly pointing out all of the ways in which the tool fell short in comparison to the Elon Musk acquired social media service.
How To Use
The short of it is that, yes, Threads works through Instagram (the app was built by the team).
According to Instagram’s official website and announcement blog page, one only needs to be logged into an active Instagram account to utilize it.
Although there are several ways to start reading and posting, including simply downloading the app from the app store, here’s another way we find easy:
Open the Instagram App on your mobile device
Go to your profile
Click the three horizontal lines in the upper right corner
Click the threads option within the taskbar that opens up
Draft, repost, and upload away!
*Reminder: If the “threads” option does not appear in your app’s taskbar, check to make sure your app has all the current upgrades required.
Further Features
Posts are currently capped at 500 characters which includes links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
There is a similar design layout to Twitter (perhaps, making it easier for some to make the switch).
According to Insider’s recent web article comparing and contrasting the new app to Twitter, “Threads users will be able to switch between the text-based app and Instagram. Posts on Threads can be shared on a user's Instagram story or profile.”
