A father and son had been riding mountain bikes together for 20 years. But the dad, now in his 60s, just couldn’t get to the top of the mountain anymore. Also, a NASA John H. Glenn Research Center employee enjoyed the five-mile bike commute to his job. But he didn’t want to “be all sweaty” arriving to work after pedaling hard coming out of the Rocky River Valley. The solution for both cyclists was an e-Bike.
“An e-Bike is a huge asset for people who are reaching limitations to keep active and to those who want to start becoming more active,” says James Mango, service advisor for Eddy’s Bike Shop in Willoughby Hills. “We sell a huge amount of e-Bikes to couples. Maybe the husband or wife wants to remain active in his or hers spouse’s life, but also doesn’t want to climb a hill to meet
for lunch.”
Eddy’s e-Bikes are pedal-assist and designed to “flatten hills and shortened distances.” The system is available on most types of bikes, including comfort, mountain and road bikes. A rider can pedal to a local store and get a little help back with that load of groceries. These are not electric-powered bikes/motorcycles with a throttle, which require registration and a license, says Mango.
