Look for the influence of menswear on women’s fashion this fall, says Samantha Leta, women’s ready-to-wear and shoe buyer for Knuth’s Boutique. That includes full-length trench coats (goodbye, short bomber jackets), wide-leg pants and shoes that echo men’s oxford and lace-up wingtip shoes.
“It’s definitely an androgynous look,” says Leta, adding that plaids and checks, classic favorite patterns of men, will also hang in the closets of fashion-conscious women. “Matchy/matchy” pants suits with the same color or print blazer and slacks are being shown as haute couture. But Leta says many of her customers would rather “break it up a bit,” and team trousers with a fitted t-shirt and jean jacket or leather outerwear.
Riding-style boots have returned. But that isn’t always the easiest style to pull off for shorter women or those who have length in their torsos rather than in their legs. “Some companies provide mid-calf height so it gives the impression that those women are wearing high-shafted boots. It works well,” says Leta.
Animal motifs also will prowl among clothing and accessories, including bags, belts and shoes. Print patterns include leopard, cheetah, snake and other reptiles. Trendy colors include jewel tones of eggplant, emerald green and marigold.
