Brunswick resident Seth Greenfelder is unstoppable — and often unbeatable. Greenfelder, 39, has been a top competitor in Special Olympics Ohio. In November, he won three medals — a gold, a silver and a bronze — in swimming (backstroke, freestyle and relay) in the regional swimming finals.
But a true high point came last June, when Greenfelder competed at the Special Olympics USA Games 2022, held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando. He ran the 100-meter and the 200-meter dash, which suited him just fine since, as he says, “running track is fun. It’s my favorite.” He won the gold in the 200-meter dash and the silver in the 100-meter, which was a literal photo finish. “It was wonderful. I loved it. It was the best. I ran really hard,” he remembers.
Equally exciting, he got to meet Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver, the son of Special Olympics founder Eunice Shriver, and even got his photo taken with Tim. Meeting Tim was a lifelong goal of Greenfelder’s, who often gives local presentations on the history of the Special Olympics. After meeting Tim, the Brunswick medalist beamed to his mother, Peg, “Mom, he just looked me right in the eye and said, ‘good job, Seth!’”
