Why He’s Interesting: Don’t let Huck Kurinsky’s age fool you: He’s already living in the clouds. At just 9 years old, he’s won multiple national championships, earned a sponsorship deal with Huffy and, now, has his sights set on making it to the Olympics.
Santa’s Little Helper: Kurinsky’s love for cycling started when he got his first bike (a Huffy) from Santa when he was 3 years old. He started to learn how to ride with his neighbor, which kicked off a trajectory that resulted in the youngster becoming one of the best kid bikers in the world. “I just kept having fun and learning more and now I’m here,” Huck says.
The World is His: While Huck began to enter competitions not too long ago, he introduced himself to the world of BMX stardom three years ago when he became the youngest male to complete a backflip at just 6 years old, thanks to tips he learned from Brody Ervin (a 12-year-old who previously held the record) and freestyle motocross rider Billy Wilson. “Brody really helped him with the mindset,” says Keir Kurinsky, Huck’s dad. “Here’s a 9-year-old teaching a 6-year-old how to break his record.”
Order in the Court: In 2022, Huck won the USA BMX freestyle national championship for boys ages 8 and younger, which earned him a proclamation from Bay Village mayor Paul Koomar along with a resolution honoring his achievements from the Ohio House of Representatives. He fittingly celebrated both awards with bike tricks; he pulled off a move named after Brant Moore in the Bay Village City Council Chambers and rode down the Statehouse steps. “It was so much fun,” Huck says. “I loved being on TV.”
40: The amount of bikes that Huck and Kier estimate they’ve received from Huffy. “There are so many,” Huck says. “I’ve lost count.”
