Jim Donovan has decided it’s time to step away from WKYC.
The longtime Cleveland sportscaster announced on Thursday that his last day at WKYC will be June 10, although he will continue to be the play-by-play voice of the Cleveland Browns Radio Network.
“It’s been an amazing run, and I am so thankful for the support from our viewers, Browns fans, my colleagues and all who have been a part of the journey. I’m looking forward to spending more time with Cheryl and my daughter Meghan,” Donovan said in a news release.
Donovan began his time at WKYC in 1985. Before that, he had stops in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Burlington, Vermont, after graduating from Boston University in 1978.
“Jimmy has had one of the most illustrious careers of any local broadcaster across the country,” WKYC president & general manager Micki Byrnes said in a news release. “It’s hard to believe he’s really stepping down, but we can all agree he’s accomplished just about every milestone that a sports and news anchor would wish for.”
Throughout his career, Donovan has needed to step away at times to battle leukemia, which most recently happened in 2023.
