Most Interesting People 2015: Paul T. Kirner

Why he's interesting: A simple New Year's resolution led to Kirner jogging at least a mile every day over 18 1/2 years. On his 67th birthday in July, the North Royalton attorney glided to 24,901.55 miles, which is the circumference of the Earth, setting a record for the second-longest Ohio running streak.

Peace out: Focusing on prayer and meditation during runs means his stride keeps on, even through a bout with lymphoma in 2002. "When I have pain, I just run through it. It just goes away. It's the endorphins that your brain kicks out, and it just makes it delightful."

do-gooder: Practicing domestic relations law can mean strange cases — squabbles over pet turtles and TV sets — but the former councilman and magistrate enjoys helping people. He once assisted in getting a divorce for a woman whose husband attempted to kill her by letting the gas leak from the oven, knowing she smoked. "It's very satisfying when you get a good resolution."

Globe-trotter: He's logged miles dodging motorcyclists in Vatican City, dashing past people walking caged birds in Hong Kong and sprinting through Costa Rican dirt roads and villages. His mind is set on running the remaining three continents — Africa, Antarctica and Australia — after he retires this July.

Mr. President: A Thomas Jefferson bust greets visitors from a center table at his law office. Kirner, who reads Jeffersonian biographies, also likes to listen to Clay Jenkinson's The Thomas Jefferson Hour podcast while on jogs. An interesting tidbit? "The fact that he died on the Fourth of July, 50 years after he wrote the Declaration of Independence."

fresh start: His streak stopped last month when gallbladder surgery sidelined him for a week and a half, but he plans on running until his final day. "I could do it another time, couldn't I? I spent 18 1/2 years to do it once, and I'm still young."
