It feels like Christmas Day for collegiate basketball fans, as the NCAA’s March Madness tournament commences. Ohio will see some of its own in the first round of competition, including the University of Akron. Seeded 14th in the Midwest-American Conference as they gear up for their sixth appearance in the tournament, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum gives the Zips one more way to celebrate.
Unveiling a limited edition bobblehead of Zippy, in conjunction with the University, the 8-inch figurine depicts Akron’s favorite kangaroo giving a number one hand sign: the position all Zips fans hope their team can end the tournament in.
“Akron is dancing in March again,” says National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum cofounder and CEO Phil Sklar. “This bobblehead is the perfect way for Akron fans, alumni, students, faculty and staff to show off their school pride!”
With only 2,024 units being put in circulation, this one-of-a-kind memorabilia won’t stick around for long. The bobblehead is now available for pre-order, and items are expected to ship in August.
The Zips will take on the Bluejays of Creighton University in the first round of March Madness on at 1:30 p.m. on March 21.
