Expect some changes to Cleveland traffic on Monday, April 8, when the total solar eclipse touches the city.
To prepare for its expected hundreds of thousands of visitors, the city announced road closures and parking details on streets and at big parking lots Downtown.
Some roads around Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, including stretches of East Ninth Street and Alfred Lerner Way, will be closed for GLSC's Eclipse Festival this weekend. (Access to the building's parking garage will still be open on West Third Street.)
While most ramps to the Shoreway will remain open, state Route 2's westbound ramps will be closed at Interstate 90.
Otherwise, most restrictions surround the city's no-parking and no-stopping zones, which span a grid of Downtown Cleveland and stretch to roads near major hospitals. See the full map here.
The city also released plans for its most popular parking lots. The Cleveland Municipal Lot, famous for its Browns game day tailgates, will open at 5 a.m. and charge parkers $50 per space. (Folks who have monthly parking cards can use them before noon.) Tailgating will be allowed with regulations.
At Willard Garage and surface lot, located at 601 Lakeside Ave., parking will cost $60 per space and will also open at 5 a.m. No tailgating will be allowed, and monthly parking card users can come and go all day.
For those who want to nab a spot early in the day, the Canal Parking lot at 1519 Merwin Ave. will open at 12:01 a.m. on April 8, and will charge $50 per space. Tailgating will be permitted there, with regulations.
