Carley McCord
Q104 radio co-host, 25
Why she's interesting: The bubbly McCord weighs in on Justin Bieber drama, Cleveland Cavaliers games and other hot-button topics on Fee's Kompany, Q104's weekday morning show. The two-time first runner-up for the title of Miss Louisiana arrived in Cleveland after turning down a chance to compete for the affections of Venezuelan soccer player Juan Pablo Galavis on season 18 of the hit reality show The Bachelor to indulge her love of football — taking a job as a broadcast media professional with the Cleveland Browns instead.
More than a pretty face: McCord, who took singing classes, became a Star Search finalist at 14. "Everyone in my family sings except my mom. She says she's married to the von Trapp family — but she's the first wife."
Muscle woman: She was also a nationally ranked powerlifter in her 97- and 105-pound weight classes in high school, bench-pressing up to 180 pounds. "I went to one practice, and I was hooked!"
Pigskin classic: McCord says her love for the gridiron is inbred. She was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home of the Louisiana State University Tigers. "SEC college football down there is pageantry in itself." Especially when it comes to tailgating. "Everybody has their jambalaya cookers out and their alligators roasting."
No toddler in a tiara: She entered her first beauty pageant, Miss Northwestern State University, as a freshman pre-law major there. The motivation was financial — the top prize included a full scholarship. The heavily weighted talent portion helped her stomach wearing a swimsuit onstage. "I love to perform."
Pageant secret: Butt glue. "You literally have to spray this stuff on your bottom so your swimsuit won't ride up." Most contestants buy a medical adhesive spray available at sporting goods stores. "Athletes use [it] before they get their ankles and wrists wrapped."
Browns recruit: McCord was working as a sports reporter for Louisiana State University's TV station when she met then-Browns general manager Michael Lombardi at LSU's NFL Pro Day in early 2013. He gave her his card and told her to call him if she ever needed a job, which she did the following September. "He called me back about three days later, and he said, 'Can you be in Cleveland in 11 days?' I didn't stutter, I didn't stumble, I didn't ponder. I said, 'Yep, I'll see you in 11 days.' "
Biggest radio rush: It's a tossup between belting a tune in the studio with singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson and interviewing actor Matthew McConaughey when he called into the show. "[McConaughey] is my celebrity crush. Oh my God! I would drop everything and everyone to be with that man."
her Motto: "The higher the hair, the closer to God."
