Why He’s Interesting: Acquired in a January 2017 trade, the 2015 All-Star has earned the nickname “Mr. Fourth Korver” for his late-game heroics that helped the Cavs tie a franchise-record, 13-game winning streak in December. A career 43 percent 3-point shooter, the 6-foot-7 shooting guard hit his 2,000th 3-point shot last year and has since leapt to No. 5 on the all-time list of most 3-point shots made.
Welcome to CLE: Seeing “Cleveland or Nowhere” shirts in the airport was a bit daunting for the out-of-towner. But he quickly found similarities to his wife’s native Philadelphia, where he spent four seasons. “There’s this hard shell you have to break through to understand who the people are, but once you do, you understand how they do things and why they are the way they are. We’ve really grown to like it a lot. We’re starting to see you, Cleveland, and we like what we see.”
Momma’s Got Pipes: Korver is married to Juliet Richardson, a pop singer whose songs “Avalon” and “Ride The Pain” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s U.S. Dance Club chart. “She’s always singing around our kids. I’ll walk into the kitchen, and she’s got a tune going. Our kids already love music and dancing.”
On the Town: With three kids, the Korvers don’t get out much. But when they do, the couple enjoys nights out at Flour in Moreland Hills or Marble Room downtown. “There’s a cool vibe in [Marble Room], man. It feels like an old New York City bank or subway station in there.”
LeBring It: After playing against him for years, Korver relishes the opportunity to play with LeBron James. “For people to say, ‘You’re the greatest,’ he knows his team has to be playing well and he has to be winning championships so that’s his focus every day. I’ve always kind of prided myself on being a guy who does the work every day, but I think if you’re around him enough, it just takes you to another level.”
Man of God: Korver grew up in a family of pastors, including his grandfather, dad, brother, uncles and cousins. This upbringing led Korver to create a foundation which benefits the disabled, the homeless and more. “Being involved in the community where you live and trying to make it better is how you live out your faith. If you focus on other people’s world, life seems a lot bigger, but if you just focus on your own world, life is smaller and not as much fun.”
Interesting Fact: Korver was drafted No. 51 overall in 2003 by the New Jersey Nets, who quickly traded his draft rights to the Philadelphia 76ers for $125,000.
