Why She’s Interesting: Guy found a way to deal with all the terrible things that happened in 2020 by turning things around, for herself and her neighbors. With a humorous weekly routine that started in April, she’s made a habit out of taking out the trash while wearing wacky, inventive costumes.
Busy Body: Guy’s mother put her through school 21 years ago to become a manicurist so she could tap into her creative side. Now, she’s a manicurist at the Opal Lounge and a bartender at Magic City Brewing Co. “It’s better that I stay busy because otherwise I get into trouble.”
Ground Breaking: When COVID-19 hit in March causing restaurants, bars and salons to close down, Guy temporarily lost both of her jobs. Then, one week later, her mother died from an unexpected and sudden battle with liver cancer. “She was put into hospice on Tuesday evening. She didn’t want to come home because she thought it would be more difficult on us. My sister and I got to stay with her and she died in the early morning hours on Saturday.”
Light Hearted: While scrolling through Facebook, Guy stumbled on a video where a neighborhood in England all dressed up to take out the trash together. When she shared the post and a friend dared her to do it, Guy’s new routine took off with a unicorn costume she kept in her closet. “It was meant to make people laugh. I love making people laugh. I was class clown in high school and I’m still doing it.”
Cool Happenings: Guy has taken out the trash in more than 30 costumes so far, including a blow-up cactus, a dinosaur, Bob Ross, Mr. Rogers, and her favorite, the lead singer of Twisted Sister, Dee Snider. She publicly shares a video of each costume on Facebook and now some of her family and friends make cameos. “I always liked dressing up. I loved running around the neighborhood and getting candy and being the funniest thing I could be.”
