I am amazed at how far our nation has come to embrace diversity. Twenty years ago, a LGBT issue like this wouldn't have existed. Having been raised by a conservative Christian family where the norm was to uphold traditional values, I can say my experience as a gay male has not always been an easy one, but it has been enlightening. Though I identify as being gay now, it's not something that has always been so easily defined. Three years ago I would have identified as being bisexual, and my last long-term relationship was with a female. As I continue to revisit my sexuality, I'm learning how important it is to love who I am and embrace my strengths. I recently came out to my family again after doing so while I was a sophomore in high school, because I believe it's important to maintain a dialogue where everyone is given an opportunity to love everything you are.
