Daniel Maggio, 23
Right Wing, Lake Erie Monsters
How he caught our eye: While he's a tough guy on the ice, Maggio scores points with his gentle heart and skill in the kitchen.
Hidden talent: I'd have to say my voice. I'm just kidding — it's not that great. But sometimes I like to jam out.
Biggest fear: Quicksand. Just the feeling of not being able to do anything and sinking in sand that just scares the shit out of me.
My bad habit: I bite my fingernails. I think that's a bad habit.
My guilty pleasure: Sitting on a couch playing video games. I feel like I'm not really achieving much if I'm doing that, but it's just so much fun.
You'd never guess: Everyone sees me as the enforcer guy for the team, so I'm always fighting. But people don't know that I can be a kind, gentle guy too, which is kind of who I am.
I can't live without: Playing hockey. I don't know what else I'd be doing if I didn't play the game. It's just something where I can be myself, let everything go and be in the moment.
My hero: My father. He's always been there, an icon for me to look up to.
On my bucket list: Skydiving. That's way up there.
Biggest accomplishment: My first year coming to pro hockey with the Fort Wayne Komets in the Central Hockey League. We went all the way and won the President's Cup. That was my first experience with pro hockey, and I've got a ring and everything.
When I'm not working: I like to cook a lot. I like to listen to music. I live in Crocker Park, so I'm usually just strolling around in the stores. Trying to keep busy. I got a lot of time on my hands.
Find me here on a Saturday night: This past Saturday, we were at TownHall after the game. We don't get to go out much, because we have so many games on the weekends, but that's where you can find me on a Saturday night.
If I had one wish: Play an NHL game in Detroit. I'm from Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit is right across from there. Playing in the Joe Louis arena in front of all my family and friends from Windsor.
If I won the Mega Millions, I'd spend it on: Lots of vacations with people who I like and love, like my family and friends, traveling everywhere. Maybe go on a nice, long boat trip, rent a yacht and travel the seas for months.
My No. 1 dating rule: I don't really have any. I'm a pretty easygoing guy, just a go-with-the-flow type of person. Just be easygoing. My No. 1 rule: Don't have rules for me.
Deal-breakers: If she's got a huge ego, I can't deal with that.
The perfect date: It'd be on a beach, a little table and two chairs sunken in the sand.
I'm a sucker for: Cuteness. I know that sounds corny. If a girl's cute, that wins me over, personality-wise.
Most romantic thing I've ever done: I sent flowers to my ex-girlfriend, because it was a long-distance relationship. Just on a normal day, for no reason.
What I look for in a significant other: Good morals, just an overall good person. I think I'm pretty good at reading people and if I know she's a good person I'll want to be around her.
I always, sometime or never make the first move: Sometimes.
Would you like to be famous?: No, I wouldn't want to be famous. I'd just like to play in the NHL.
Do you rehearse what you're going to say before making a phone call? No. I don't rehearse, I just think of something to say, then say it.
Last time I sang to myself: This morning I was singing. I had to the radio on in the shower and was jamming out. I like to do that, it wakes me up. Last time I sang to someone else: Probably the rookie party, which was like a year and a half ago.
If I could gain one quality or ability, it would be: I don't know. I like myself. Maybe a better skater? Get some better hands overnight?
I wish I had someone with whom I could share ... : a laugh with.
Celebrity dream date: I've always had a big crush on Jennifer Aniston.
Celebrity look-alike: No, I haven't got any, really.
Dogs or cats: I'm an animal lover, but dogs do it for me. I have a dog back home.
Beach or mountains: Beach.
Signature dish: I like to make a nice rib-eye steak with sweet potatoes and a garden salad with balsamic. Money.
How I stay healthy: We're always working out every day. Our trainer always has workouts on the board for us. And diets too, we try to stay as healthy as we can.
My favorite ... book: I'm reading a book right now, The Power of Now. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping at night because my mind won't stop racing after games and stuff. It helps you shut off your mind and live in the present. ... TV show: I like Sons of Anarchy. Breaking Bad was an awesome show too. ... movie: Warrior. It's a couple years old, a fighting movie with two brothers. ... music: I like a bunch of different music, depending on the mood. I like country, reggae. I like everything. Blake Shelton is awesome. I also like house music, Avicii. ... restaurant: Red, the Steakhouse downtown is pretty good. Though I've got to say my parents' restaurant or they'll kill me. It's called Vito's Pizzeria. My parents also have this Irish pub called O'Maggio's Kildare House. ... app: I'm on Twitter the most. It keeps me in the loop on everything, I can check scores of different hockey games, see what's going on.
What I'm reading: The Power of Now.
iPod embarrassment: You know The Hunger Games? There's a new song out called "The Hanging Tree." It's off the soundtrack.
I'm so over: My roommate's girlfriend. Him and his girlfriend's problems.
Dream job: This is it right here, playing hockey for a living. Or owning five huge businesses that make over a billion dollars would be pretty cool.
Dream vacation: We have a Croatian on our team, and he told me about this place where you can rent a yacht for a week. It's called Yacht Week. They tie them all up together and it's just one big party.
My take on Cleveland's single scene: It's a little different from Canada in the way the girls act, but it's good. I've met some nice, cool girls here.
Are you on tinder?: No. Maybe once or twice, but not right now.
Best thing about being single: No pointless arguments. It's nice time by yourself, not always trying to worry about what she's doing or what's going on. It's peaceful.
Worst thing about being single: You always have those lonely nights during the week when it's cold outside and you're lying on the couch and you just think, Oh, I wish I had someone to cuddle with.
Best date I've been on: Back home in Windsor, we crossed the border through the tunnel to Detroit. We went to Greektown, where there's all these Greek restaurants and a casino and stuff. We got lunch, and then we went to the Tigers game.
Worst date I've been on: I met this girl I thought I liked at some tiny coffee shop. I just wasn't interested at all, but I didn't want to be rude, so I stayed the whole time. It was painful.
Do you hope to settle down in the next five years?: What am I — 23? I'd be 28, so nope.
