As Cleveland City Council’s first African-American president, George L. Forbes served alongside five mayoral administrations from 1974 to 1989. The Cleveland History Center honors the outspoken politician during the George L. Forbes Celebration Weekend Oct. 13 & 14 with a Saturday night fundraising dinner to benefit the Western Reserve Historical Society’s African-American Archives, followed by Sunday’s free community day with performances by Karamu House, a proclamation ceremony and more.
