Meet the RNC Delegate: Benny Pinaula
The 52-year-old from Barrigada, Guam, is pledged to Donald Trump.
Plans for Cleveland: To see the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. “I’m a big football guy. I’ve been a 49ers fan since Joe Montana was playing.”
Favorite chess grandmaster: The current chess champion, 25-year-old Magnus Carlsen of Norway. “He has a unique gift, moves very quickly, and was playing grandmasters at 10 and 11 years old.”
Issue he’s passionate about: Relaxing federal laws such as those that regulate freighter shipping and plane travel to and from Guam. Pinaula says the rules add to the cost of consumer goods and travel. “We’re asking the presumptive nominee and the party to consider addressing these issues.”
Favorite living politician: Newt Gingrich. “He has a great grasp of history, he rose to the speakership, and he was a great negotiator.”
Gingrich for vice president: “I think it could add balance to the ticket. He could help Donald Trump navigate the political roadways in Washington.”
Favorite fictional political character: Claire Underwood, the first lady played by Robin Wright in House of Cards. “She has a different set of ideas about art and music, though she understands Washington and power. She adds balance to the president.”
How can the GOP win Ohio?: “The ultimate aim in all elections is to connect with people and offer something better then they have already in front of them. Conservatives have to make a connection with people through a ground-roots operation over how policies affect them.”
