During the convention, the Cuyahoga County Republican Party wants to be the equivalent of your best friend’s couch — decked out in stars and stripes. The organization is hosting nightly gatherings July 18-21 at Grays Armory. “The Q itself is a pretty hard ticket to get,” says Cuyahoga GOP executive director Julie Kirk. “We want to provide a conventionlike experience … to as many local people as we can.” Large-screen TVs will simulcast the proceedings beginning at 6:30 p.m. After the nightly gavel, the party won’t stop, with as-yet-unannounced national musical acts taking the stage until the early morning. To keep stomachs full, Driftwood Group partner and consulting chef Chris Hodgson is creating a specialty menu. On the adjacent parking lot, a tent will welcome visitors beginning at noon. “You’ve got these blocks of time that you have to fill, downtime, and you just want to squat somewhere,” says Kathi Paroska, a local GOP consultant organizing the party and past conventioneer. “There’s nothing really like it, aside from The Q itself.” $90 for party members, $125 general admission
