Fresh off an American Hockey League championship in June, Cleveland’s puck-slinging franchise is getting cozier with its city and basketball brethren. Changing from Lake Erie Monsters to Cleveland Monsters is a nod to the swelling pride in the city over the last several years, says Pam Frasco, the team’s vice president of marketing and communications. “We play in a major league city,” she says. “We need to be named after our city.” The Monsters are also incorporating more wine and gold (previously the colors were only present in the monster logo’s eye) via the stripes and lining on their jerseys to create closer ties with the Cavaliers, with whom they share The Q. “We have so much crossover,” Frasco says. “It’s nice to showcase the family of colors.”
