CEO, Cleveland Clinic
This winter, Dr. Toby Cosgrove spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Bono, Prince Charles and Henry Kissinger, before flying to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to break ground on the branch hospital the Cleveland Clinic is building there. All in an extraordinary few days’ work for Cosgrove, who is leading the Clinic’s global expansion. Here in Cleveland, the famous heart surgeon has been making news as well. The Clinic has a new policy to not hire smokers, and Cosgrove has ousted Pizza Hut and banned trans fat from the campus. Cosgrove’s past is equally impressive: He holds more patents than any other Clinic doctor in history for the medical products he developed, has performed more than 18,000 surgical procedures and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service as a surgeon in Vietnam.
